Allen & Son

About Us

We are an independent, family-owned and run funeral directing company.

Allen & Son has been established in Moreton-in-Marsh since 1928, with three generations of the Allen family having served the community.

A new chapter for Allen & Son began in May 2022 when husband and wife team Diane & James Drury, who had previously been employed by the company, were offered the opportunity to take over the business. Having grown to love the area, they didn’t hesitate, moving their home to Moreton-in-Marsh and now own and manage all aspects of the business between them.

Diane & James have many years’ experience in the funeral industry and through this and their own personal losses, Diane & James know that suffering a bereavement can be one of the most distressing and sad times in people’s lives. Even though a death may be expected, it can still come as a huge shock and bring great stress and worry. Diane & James want you to know that you are not alone and that they will be there to support you throughout and beyond this difficult time.

Diane & James have a close relationship with Peter & Veronica Allen, and Peter says that he and Ronnie are “delighted that the family business is once again run by a husband-and-wife team, as it was when we were at the helm”. Even though Peter retired some years ago, he still cares very much about his family business and the local community, so he does still come out of retirement to help if he is able to when specially requested by families.

Diane & James offer a friendly and professional service, tailoring funerals to individual needs and wishes, and are always at the end of the phone to give support and guidance to families and their local community in any way they can.

Of course, Allen & Son moved location in 2020 and our new premises are easily accessible in London Road, just before the Evenlode turn as you travel away from the town. We have spacious, modern facilities with convenient on-site car parking and a large Chapel of Rest, where you could have a small service or just sit peacefully with your loved one.

It is our aim to provide the very highest standard of service and quality to the families we care for, 24 hours per day, 365 days of the year. We are available at any hour, to provide assistance, advice or removals to our Chapel of Rest. We are able to arrange funerals for all religions and also non-religious ceremonies.

We are proud to be members of the National Society Of Allied Independent Funeral Directors and comply with their code of conduct.

Our Services

At Allen & Son we always aim to provide the very highest standard of service and quality to the families we care for. Our office is open from 9am-5pm Monday to Friday, with evenings and weekends by appointment. However, we are available 24 hours per day, 365 days of the year to provide assistance, advice and removals to our Chapel of Rest. We can handle arrangements and bring your loved one into our care, from wherever they have passed away whether at home or abroad.

The funeral you choose does not necessarily need to be a religious ceremony - we can organise funerals for all religions and non-religious ceremonies. Whatever you choose we can help to find an appropriate officiant. Our peaceful and spacious Chapel of Rest can also be used to hold small services for up to 20 people. Convenient on-site parking is available.

Burial Services

Whether you choose a Church burial, a family plot or a woodland or natural burial ground, we will co-ordinate, book and arrange all the necessary paperwork, and manage the payment of fees for you. We are transparent about all fees incurred and you will find a guide on our ‘Prices’ page.

Cremation Services

We will co-ordinate all of the necessary medical paperwork required for cremation, help you to choose a crematorium and arrange additional services such as memorials, scattering or burial of ashes, and any memorial services required either at the crematorium or other location.

Registering A Death

We will advise and guide you through the process of obtaining death certificates, provide information on where and when you need to register the death and the paperwork and information you will need. We understand that this may not be something that you will be familiar with and we are here to help.

Distance Is No Object

We regularly conduct funerals all over the country so can act for you wherever the funeral is to take place. A death away from home can be additionally stressful, but we can arrange removal either to our chapel of rest or another location of your choice from anywhere in the UK or even organise repatriation from abroad.
